Harbour Oysters UK CIC

Statement of Objectives

Our CIC helps us deliver more projects - at sites which require a slightly different approach and funding - and work with new partners to support our local environment and communities. Allowing the Ltd to focus on B2B activities.

  1. Restore native oyster populations and marine habitats
To establish, restore and manage native oyster habitats in harbours, marinas, estuaries and other suitable coastal environments, supporting the recovery of native oyster populations and the wider ecosystems on which they depend.
  2. Improve coastal water quality and biodiversity
To use native oysters and other nature-based approaches to improve water quality, enhance biodiversity, stabilise sediments and increase the resilience and ecological health of coastal environments.
  3. Support community-led environmental stewardship
To enable local communities, volunteers, marine users, schools, clubs and community organisations to participate directly in the protection, restoration and monitoring of their local marine environment.
  4. Provide education and raise awareness
To deliver educational programmes, talks, workshops, public events and practical activities that increase understanding of native oysters, marine ecosystems, water quality, biodiversity and the importance of protecting coastal environments.
  5. Create opportunities for volunteering and skills development
To provide accessible opportunities for people to gain practical experience and skills through activities including oyster habitat construction, installation, maintenance, monitoring and biosecurity.
  6. Build partnerships for coastal restoration
To work collaboratively with harbour authorities, sailing clubs, environmental organisations, charities, research institutions, businesses, schools and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective marine restoration projects.
  7. Support sustainable coastal communities and the blue economy
To contribute to the long-term social, environmental and economic resilience of coastal communities by supporting sustainable marine practices and enhancing the ecological value of harbours and coastal areas for recreation, tourism, education and other sustainable uses.
  8. Develop and share scalable restoration approaches
To develop, test, monitor and share practical approaches to native oyster restoration that can be replicated across other harbours, marinas and coastal environments, increasing the scale and reach of the Company’s environmental impact.
  9. Support research, monitoring and evidence-based restoration
To undertake and support research, monitoring and data collection relating to oyster restoration, biodiversity, water quality and ecosystem health, and to use the findings to improve restoration practices and demonstrate environmental impact.
  10. Reinvest surplus into community and environmental benefit
To use any surplus generated by the Company to further the Company’s objectives, including expanding oyster restoration projects, increasing community participation and education, and extending the environmental and social impact of its work.

Through these objectives, Harbour Oysters UK CIC aims to deliver a practical, scalable and community-led approach to coastal restoration, creating measurable and lasting benefits for both people and nature.
